Activities and Interests I am interested in classical music, particularly British music fromthe 16th to the 21st. centuries and frequently attend concerts in London and elsewhere. I am a member of the Elgar, Delius and British Music Societies, Young Concert Artists' Trust (YCAT) and the Society for the Promotion of New Music. I also enjoy tennis and 'keeping fit'. Other interests include history, walking, visiting sites of architectural interest (I am a Life Member of the National Trust, a member of English Heritage and the Historic Houses Association), and art (I am a member of the National Art's Collection Fund and a Friend of the Royal Academy, Tate Gallery and Dulwich Art Gallery). I am a member of the Royal Institution and attend the Friday evening discourses. I was President of the Osler Club of London from 2005 to 2007 which is a club dedicated to preserve the memory of the great Canadian physician, Sir William Osler, and was Hon Sec from 1999 to 2004. I was Hon Sec of the RSM Section of Anaesthesia from 2001 to 2002. A PDF version of the my report of the year's activities is available if you follow this link. I was then the Hon Treasurer of the Section (from October 2003 to June 2006) and was President of the Section from October 2008 to Oct 2009). 2008, incidentally, was the 100th anniversary of the Section of Anaesthetics (sic) and the Section evolved from the Society of Anaesthetists, which was the first association of anaesthetists in the world (1893).
